The Bitpanda Hamburg Open have announced MB Energy, a leading independent and integrated energy company with more than seven decades of trading and logistics expertise, as its new official energy & sustainability partner, marking a significant step in the tournament’s long-term sustainability strategy.
As an ATP 500 event held at the historic Rothenbaum, the Bitpanda Hamburg Open continues to strengthen its commitment to environmental responsibility while delivering world-class tennis in one of Europe’s most traditional Tennis venues.
This year the Bitpanda Hamburg Open will take place from 16th to 23rd of May. With local hero Alexander Zverev and Canada’s Félix Auger-Aliassime already confirmed, two absolute world-class players have committed to compete in Hamburg. Further top players will be announced in the coming weeks.
Measuring impact, driving progress
As part of the partnership, MB Energy will assess the full carbon footprint of the tournament. This includes quantifying both direct greenhouse gas emissions generated onsite and indirect emissions arising from imported energy, transport, and products used by the organiser.
The detailed analysis will create a robust data basis to better understand the environmental impact of the event and support targeted measures aimed at reducing emissions and continuously improving the tournament’s sustainability performance in the years to come.
In addition, both partners will explore practical solutions to integrate lower-carbon fuel alternatives into selected event operations.
“Aces for Sustainability” – Performance meets purpose
A central element of the partnership is the launch of the “Aces for Sustainability” initiative. For every ace served during the tournament, MB Energy will make a donation to Special Olympics Hamburg, the regional branch of Special Olympics Germany. By linking sporting excellence with tangible social impact, the initiative supports inclusion, participation, and equal opportunities in sport for people with intellectual disabilities in Hamburg.
“Partnering with MB Energy allows us to take the next important step in structuring and professionalising our sustainability approach,” said Juan de Dios Aguirre, Commercial Partner of Tennium, organiser of the Bitpanda Hamburg Open. “Understanding our full carbon footprint is essential if we want to reduce it responsibly. At the same time, ‘Aces for Sustainability’ perfectly reflects what this tournament stands for – combining top-level tennis with a positive contribution to the city of Hamburg.”
“Partnering with the Hamburg Open is a logical next step for MB Energy,” said André Cardoso, Senior Vice President Sales & Marketing at MB Energy. “The tournament is associated with performance, integrity and long-term commitment – values that are also important to us. With our experience, our practical solutions and our investments in low-emission solutions, we aim to support progress that is both relevant today and for the future. ‘Aces for Sustainability’ shows how top-level sport and positive social engagement can complement each other.”
